8/31/2023 0 Comments Basketball outline![]() ![]() The BBF also outlined its gratitude for the funding provided by Sport England and welcomed the recent announcement by the UK government which increased funding to UK Sport and they have stated they will apply for funding in the Tokyo Investment cycle under the Emerging Sports category. ![]() The BBF has highlighted that the sport needs collaboration to address a number of urgent issues to help create the platform for the strategy and for growth. It believes that as the body that will sanction the new professional league structures from October 2016, it must lead the development of the new league licences in consultation with BBL (British Basketball League) and WBBL (Women's British Basketball League) clubs and the approach to the sale of the main TV and commercial rights. ![]() The aim is to complete the work by the spring of 2016 and it is something that has been met with enthusiasm after both the current and incoming Chairs met recently with FIBA to provide an update on progress.įIBA is fully supportive of the approach that the BBF Board is adopting. We encourage all parties to engage with the BBF in the interest of the sport. Wide stakeholder engagement and consultation will be a key element, with the intention to hold a stakeholder conference to be an integral part of the process. The BBF Board is now in the process of appointing a facilitator who will help it develop this approach. The BBF will formally take the reins in October 2016 and prepare for the entry of GB U16 and U18 teams in 2017, as part of the strategic planning process. The main aims of the BBF have been stated as needing to maximise the income, profile and success of the sport at every level, by working together to deliver against an overall agreed long-term plan. The three 'Home Nation Associations Boards' of Basketball England, Basketball Scotland and Basketball Wales have all committed to the notion that the best way forward for the sport the UK is under a confederated approach - led by the BBF.
